SUNY Stony Brook
Location: State University of New York at Stony Brook, Long Island, NY
Rehabilitation of four Roof Plaza & Green Rook decks (167,000 sf) located above and adjacent to laboratory and classroom spaces at Stony Brook University. New furnishings arranged to provide a variation of communal and intermediate spaces at each level.
Social spaces, such as a therapeutic walking labyrinth, child’s play area and vegetable/herb garden, were provided for stake holders to assemble and interact with. In addition, each level became an extension of the interior space which students, faculty, and visitors could utilize as distinction points during each day. Project Management and Architectural Leads were provided by current SMDC employees.
USPS Morgan Processing & Delivery Center
Location: New York, NY
Rehabilitation of parts of a 2,200,000 sf mid-rise (12 floors) distribution hub in mid-town Manhattan, including replacement of one of the roofs with a 109,000 sf Green Roof System. The combined projects were geared towards a 30% minimum reduction in energy use over ASHRAE 90.1 (2004). Commissioning of newly installed building systems was an important aspect in both ensuring the target 31% reduction while realizing the full value of a NYSERDA rebate, estimated around $1,900,000.
The project was awarded the ACEC (NY Chapter) Gold Award for Green Roof Design, NY CMAA Project of the Year Award for Energy Upgrades. Project Management and Architectural Leads were provided by current SMDC employees.
